【Understanding Gold Purity】
The purity of gold is measured in karats. Pure gold measures 24 karats but is too soft in this state to be used effectively in jewelry. So it is alloyed with other metals such as silver, copper, etc. to increase its strength and durability. Common measurements once the alloy is added are 18 karat (75% gold), 14 karat (58.5%), and 10 karat (41.7%). A higher karat measurement in gold content indicates a greater value of the jewelry piece. Gold jewelry is usually stamped with the karat mark such as 18K, K18 or 750 for 18-karat gold, and 14K, K14 or 585 for 14-karat gold.
【About Star Ruby】
Asterism is an optical phenomenon displayed by some rubies, sapphires, and other gems (e.g. garnet, diopside, spinel) of an enhanced reflective area in the shape of a "star" on the surface of a cabochon-cut gemstone. Star rubies and sapphires have needle-like rutile inclusions that, interacting with light, cause the star effect. When viewed under a single-light source (such as a torch or penlight), a six-ray star will appear on the surface of the gemstone. This star generally has six points but there are also rarer cases that present a 12-ray star.

A jeweler will probably use a set of finger gauges, often called a ring sizer, which contains a series of metal bands in ½ size increments. If you want to measure it at home, you can use a ring you already have, or a piece of string or a strip of paper to measure your finger.
