It's ideal for individuals new to handmade leather crafts or those looking to create a heartfelt gift. We've prepared the materials, with the project already about 70% complete, making the experience of crafting your own leather item remarkably straightforward. The only techniques you'll learn are "punching stitch holes with a diamond chisel" and "professional leather saddle stitching." Other construction details are handled by the workshop. Taking the ID card holder as an example, we'll pre-attach the plastic film for the ID window, smooth the leather edges, and complete the initial stitching to secure the film. All leather pieces will be assembled and adhered. Your task is simply to complete the final row of stitching. Despite its apparent simplicity, based on our studio's extensive teaching experience, beginners without prior leathercraft experience typically need 1.5 to 2.5 hours or more to finish. Due to the plant tannins within the leather, exposure to air or sunlight gradually deepens its hue. Coupled with the natural oils from your hands and friction from daily use, the leather develops a rich patina over time. This allows leather goods made from vegetable-tanned hide to evolve uniquely with time and user habits, becoming a testament to the shared history between the owner and the item. Consequently, farmers do not prioritize protecting the cattle's skin. During their lives, cattle may endure insect bites, scratches, or punctures. Free-ranging cattle might bear branding marks, and as they age, their skin develops natural lines and wrinkles. There might also be surgical scars from difficult births. During the process of harvesting the animal for meat, skinning can result in cuts. These marks are faithfully preserved on the leather when it's transformed into a leather product, bearing witness to the animal's life. At DOZI Leather Studio, we embrace these natural markings of the cowhide. Unless they are excessively large, we do not deliberately avoid using them in our creations. As the leather darkens and develops a patina with use, these natural marks, combined with signs of wear, contribute to the unique character of the finished piece. 🌞 Color Selection -------------------- The photos shown are of the actual leather. Colors may vary slightly due to differences in lighting and screen displays. It is advisable to avoid storing leather in damp environments. If the leather becomes accidentally wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and degrade. Once dry, you may apply leather conditioning oil to replenish the leather's natural oils. Applying a waterproof spray can also offer protection against accidental spills and enhance surface durability. For storage or long periods of disuse, place the leather item in a dehumidifying cabinet set to 50%-60% humidity to prevent mold, or use a sealed bag with a desiccant for a similar effect.
