Gold Filled is a process where a thick layer of gold is mechanically bonded to a base metal, such as brass, under high heat and pressure. If the weight of the gold layer is at least 1/20th of the total weight of the material, it is called Gold Filled. 14/20K signifies that at least 1/20th of the total weight of the item is 14K gold. Because Gold Filled items have a substantial gold layer, they are highly resistant to tarnishing and peeling even with prolonged use.
