"Brass" A metal made from a mixture of copper and zinc, it shines like gold when new, but over time, due to the influence of atmospheric components, it darkens due to a process called "sulfidation." This sulfidation process transforms the piece into a more subdued, antique-like appearance. It is a luxurious metal in a sense, allowing you to enjoy two different faces: shining brass and subdued brass. If you are concerned about darkening or dullness, you can polish it back to its original shine with commercially available brass polishing agents. You can also prevent darkening by storing your jewelry in a sulfide-resistant bag or by storing it in a sealable bag with sulfide-resistant chips. In the summer, sweat and moisture may cause blue marks or darkening on your fingers, but please rest assured that washing it will not have any adverse effects.
