Among the variations in color, the most significant is the "play-of-color" in opals. Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "to collect the beauty of gemstones," is world-renowned for its magical and beautiful play-of-color effect. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The famous English writer Shakespeare once described opal as "this miracle, worthy of being called the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse, displaying different color changes when viewed from various angles. Each piece of opal is unique, making it highly collectible. Opals come in varieties such as black opal, white opal (precious opal), fire opal, and matrix opal. Opal is composed of a microscopic structure of silica spheres, invisible to the naked eye and only observable under an electron microscope. These color changes are caused by the diffraction and interference of light interacting with the gaps between these spherical structures. It's a complex phenomenon, essentially light playing hide-and-seek with these structures! **Opal Care and Storage** If you have purchased natural opals or pearls, please be particularly mindful to avoid environments that are excessively humid or have large temperature fluctuations. Temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to the hardness and formation state of organic gemstones, please also avoid hot springs and hot water baths, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that requires a bit of moisture for its preservation. Therefore, we do not include desiccants in the storage pouches. Of course, like other gemstones, it should not be worn during bathing or when visiting hot springs. Do not use a silver polishing cloth to clean opals; simply wipe them with a clean, dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. We will provide a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in the gemstone pouch. For all natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them in hot springs or during bathing, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Also, please do not store jewelry in the bathroom or kitchen, as this can accelerate oxidation. When not wearing sterling silver or gold-plated jewelry, try to isolate it from moisture and air. Wipe it clean with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store it in a PVC zipper bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from collision with other jewelry or hard objects. The zipper bag already contains an imported Japanese desiccant. **Inclusions in Natural Stones** The natural stones used in NOW Design are collected from around the world, and each one is unique, making most products one-of-a-kind. These stones are specially selected. We showcase the colors of the stones from different angles and under various lighting conditions to our clients. Natural stones may have internal impurities (inclusions), which are unavoidable. If this is a concern, we do not recommend purchasing.
