Among stones displaying color variation, the most significant is the "play-of-color" in opals. Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "to gather the beauty of gemstones," is renowned worldwide for its magical and beautiful play-of-color effect. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The renowned English playwright Shakespeare once described opal as "a miracle, the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse, displaying different hues from various angles, making each opal unique and highly collectible. Opals come in various types, including black opal, white opal (precious opal), fire opal, and matrix opal. Opals are composed of silica spheres, structures invisible to the naked eye and only visible under an electron microscope. These color changes are caused by diffraction and interference—a complex interaction of light and the spaces between these spheres, like a playful game of hide-and-seek! **Opal Care and Storage** If you have purchased natural opals or pearls, please take special care. Avoid exposure to excessively humid environments or drastic temperature changes, as both can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to their hardness and formation, please also avoid contact with hot springs and hot water, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that actually requires a bit of moisture. Therefore, we do not include desiccants in the storage pouch. Like other gemstones, it should not be worn during bathing or when visiting hot springs. Do not use a silver polishing cloth to clean opals; simply wipe them with a clean, dry, or slightly damp cloth. We will provide a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in the gemstone pouch. For all natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them in hot springs or during bathing, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Please also refrain from storing jewelry in the bathroom or kitchen, as this can accelerate oxidation. When not wearing sterling silver or gold jewelry, try to minimize exposure to moisture and air. Wipe clean with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store in a PVC zipper bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from collisions with other items or hard surfaces. The zipper bag already contains an imported Japanese desiccant. **Natural Stone Inclusions** The natural stones used in the NOW Design studio are collected from around the world, and each is unique, with most items being one-of-a-kind. These stones are specially selected. We showcase their colors from different angles and under various lighting conditions for our clients. Natural stones will have internal impurities (inclusions), which are unavoidable. If you are concerned about this, we do not recommend purchasing.
