Among these colors, the most significant gemstone property is the "play-of-color" found in opals. Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "to gather beauty of gemstones," is renowned worldwide for its magical and beautiful play-of-color effect. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The famous English playwright Shakespeare once described opal as "this miracle, the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse, displaying different color shifts from various angles. Each piece of opal is unique, making it highly collectible. Opals come in various types, including black opal, white opal (common opal), fire opal, and boulder opal. Opal is composed of a silica sphere structure, invisible to the naked eye and only observable under an electron microscope. These color variations are caused by diffraction and interference – a playful dance between light and the gaps between these spherical structures! **Opal Care & Storage** If you have purchased natural opals or pearls, please take special care to avoid overly humid environments or extreme temperature fluctuations. Temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to their hardness and formation, please also avoid hot springs and baths, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that requires a bit of moisture for care. Therefore, we do not include desiccants in our storage bags. Of course, like other gemstones, it should not be worn during baths or while visiting hot springs. Do not use silver polishing cloths to clean opals; simply wipe them clean with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth. We will include a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in the provided gemstone bag. It is not recommended to wear any natural gemstone or metal jewelry in hot springs or while bathing, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Also, please do not store jewelry in the bathroom or kitchen, as this can accelerate oxidation. For sterling silver or gold jewelry, when not being worn, try to minimize exposure to moisture and air. Wipe them clean with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store them in a PVC zipper bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from contact with other jewelry or hard objects. The zipper bag already contains an imported Japanese desiccant. **Natural Stone Inclusions** The natural stones used in the NOW design studio are collected from around the world, each one unique, with almost every piece being a one-of-a-kind creation. These are specially selected natural stones, and we showcase their colors at different angles and under various lighting conditions for our clients. Natural stones may have internal impurities (inclusions), which are unavoidable. If this is a concern, we do not recommend purchasing.
