This is a plump, lustrous white teardrop, reminiscent of tears shed from a radiant full moon. It is crafted from Okinawa spiny top shell, meticulously polished by hand. This beautiful shell is embraced by a white peacock frame, as if cradling precious eggs. The spiny top shell's allure lies in its iridescent shimmer and captivating stripes. While each piece is unique, you'll find joy in any of them. The iridescence is akin to the nacre found inside abalone shells, known as mother-of-pearl. Its thickness lends a sense of depth to the lustrous sheen. Though designed to be subtle in this piece, we're told that depending on the cut and finish, a mystical blue-green, like malachite, can emerge. This particular spiny top shell showcases delicate stripes and a relatively strong iridescent shimmer. The reverse side reveals a distinct, mystical blue-green reminiscent of malachite, with overlapping patterns of white and beige creating a captivating landscape. The contrast between white and blue-green might evoke the breathtaking scenery of the Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil's white desert dunes. While you cannot remove the shell from its setting yourself, we've included photos of the piece before it was set, so you can find a shell with your favorite color and pattern. Beautiful objects are born from materials that might have been thrown away. They also ensure that no chemicals that could damage the material are used in their process. Spiny top shells have maintained their brilliance for a thousand years in treasures like those found in the Shosoin repository and the maki-e lacquerware of Chuson-ji Temple's Golden Hall, and have been traditionally believed to ward off evil. To ensure you can enjoy this piece for a long time, I have finished it without using any adhesives that might yellow or peel over time. The metal frame is tightened just enough to avoid scratching the shell, and it is secured with stainless steel wire threaded with a pearl to prevent movement within the frame. The pearl is a Swarovski crystal in a pearlescent white, chosen to complement and enhance the shell's colors.
