｜ Product introduction｜ Australia's sixpence began circulating in 1910 and continued until the decimalization of Australian currency in 1966. Before the introduction of the decimal currency policy, Australian coins had the same types, weights, and sizes as British currency, including denominations like threepence, sixpence, and shilling. The sixpence was colloquially known as "zac" in Australia, and it was also used to refer to "a small amount of money." From 1953 to 1963, the sixpence was made of 50% silver. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse displays a shield derived from the Australian coat of arms, supported by a kangaroo and an emu.
