This tetsubin is handmade by the foundry craftsman Katsuyoshi Sato. The entire manufacturing process is made by a foundry craftsman. Cherry blossoms pattern is carefully applied by the artist. This tetsubin produces an vintage look. This tetsubin takes its name from Daitokuji Temple, a sacred site for the tea ceremony. Daitokuji Temple is one of the largest Zen temples in Kyoto that has produced many famous monks and is known for its deep connection with the history of tea ceremony. The bottom diameter of the kettle is smaller than that of the body. The advantage of this shape is that it prevents deterioration of the body due to heat sources. The body of the tetsubin is decorated with a cherry blossom design, while the top is decorated with an line pattern. The ambiguous application of the line pattern gives the tetsubin an aged appearance. The body is decorated with a vivid cherry blossom petal design. The tetsubin has a sturdy and massive structure, making it not only practical, but also has an outstanding sense of presence as an interior decoration. The wide spout makes it easy to fill with water. The inside is not enamel processed. The boiling water will be mellow. Nanbu ironware is baked using the traditional technique called kama-yaki to produce an oxide layer on the surface. It leads to "rust resistance" and "water quality improvement" and makes tea and coffee taste better. The water boiled in Nanbu iron kettle tastes mellow and sweet even when drunk straight. This is due to the effect of iron leaching into the hot water, but in order for the iron to leach out, the inside cannot be enameled or otherwise treated, and rust is liable to occur.
