Among the variations in color, the most significant is the "play-of-color" in opals. Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "to collect the beauty of gemstones," is renowned worldwide for its magical and beautiful play-of-color. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The famous English playwright Shakespeare once described opal as "this miracle, the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse, displaying different color changes when viewed from various angles. Each opal is unique, making it highly collectible. Opals come in various types, including black opal, white opal (crystal opal), fire opal, and boulder opal. Opal is composed of silica spheres. These spherical structures are invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen under an electron microscope. The color variations are caused by diffraction and interference – it's a bit complex, essentially light playing hide-and-seek with the gaps between these spherical structures! **Opal Care & Storage** If you have purchased a natural gemstone that is opal or pearl, please pay special attention to avoiding overly humid environments or extreme temperature fluctuations. Both temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to the hardness and formation of organic gemstones, please also avoid hot springs and baths, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that actually requires a bit of moisture for its preservation. Therefore, we do not include desiccants in the storage pouch. Of course, like other gemstones, it should not be worn during bathing or when visiting hot springs. Do not use silver polishing cloths to clean opals; use a clean, dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. We will include a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in the gemstone pouch. For all natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them in hot springs or during bathing, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Also, please do not store jewelry in the bathroom or kitchen, as this can accelerate oxidation. For sterling silver or gold jewelry, when not wearing, try to isolate it from moisture and air. Wipe it clean with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store it in a PVC zip-lock bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from collision with other jewelry or hard objects. The zip-lock bag already contains an imported Japanese desiccant. **Natural Stone Inclusions** The natural stones used in the NOW Design Studio are collected from around the world, and each piece is unique, with most being one-of-a-kind items. These are specially selected natural stones, and we showcase their colors under different angles or lighting conditions for our clients. Natural stones will have some internal impurities (inclusions), which are unavoidable. If this is a concern, we do not recommend purchasing.
