Opal, derived from the Latin word "opalus," meaning "to gather the beauty of gemstones," is renowned worldwide for its magical and beautiful play-of-color effect. It is also a symbol of nobility and status. The famous English playwright Shakespeare once described opal as "this miracle, the queen of gems." Its colors are incredibly diverse; viewed from different angles, different colors emerge, making each opal unique and thus highly collectible. Opals come in varieties such as black opal, white opal (precious opal), fire opal, and matrix opal. Opals are composed of silica spheres; these spherical structures are invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen under an electron microscope. The color variations are caused by the diffraction and interference of light with these spherical structures. It's quite complex; essentially, light plays hide-and-seek with the gaps between these spherical structures! **Opal Care / Storage** If you have purchased natural opals or pearls, please take special care to avoid excessively humid or environments with large temperature fluctuations. Both temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to their hardness and formation, please also avoid hot springs and hot baths, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that actually requires a bit of moisture for its care. Therefore, a desiccant is not included in the storage pouch. Of course, like other gemstones, do not wear them for bathing or visiting hot springs. Do not use a silver polishing cloth to clean opals; use a clean, dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. We will provide a jewelry polishing cloth. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in the gemstone pouch. For natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them for hot spring baths or regular baths, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Also, do not store jewelry in bathrooms or kitchens, as this can accelerate oxidation. For sterling silver or gold jewelry, when not in use, try to minimize exposure to moisture and air. Wipe them clean with a soft dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store them in a PVC resealable bag. Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratches from collisions with other jewelry or hard objects. A desiccant from Japan is included in the resealable bag. **Natural Stone Inclusions** The natural stones used in the NOW design studio are collected from around the world, and each piece is unique, with most being one-of-a-kind items. These are specially selected natural stones, and we showcase their colors under different angles or lighting conditions for our clients. Natural stones will inevitably have internal impurities (inclusions); this is unavoidable. If you are concerned about this, we do not recommend purchasing.
