The contemporary Japanese avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama is known as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Born in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan on March 22, 1929, she moved to New York City in 1956 and began to show her leading avant-garde artistic creations. She returned to Japan in 1973 and now lives in Tokyo.
