During the Japanese colonial period, in February of the 4th year of Showa (1929), submissions and voting for the Kaohsiung City Emblem (City Coat of Arms) were submitted and finally Mr. Gohu Kawamoto, who lived in Meiji Town, Tainan (now Chenggong Road area), was selected. . The upper part of the design pattern is "タ", which is taken from Kaohsiung katakana, and is pronounced as Ta, while the lower half is "カ", which is pronounced as Ka. "タ" plus "カ" is pronounced Ta-Ka, which is very similar to the old name of Ta-Kao. This is also the only city emblem discovered so far during the Japanese colonial period that uses superimposed text arranged above and below. A combination of up and down hammer graphics. Thick black straight lines show simple and elegant strength.
For this series of activities of Kaohsiung 100, we and the designers started from the city emblem during the Japanese occupation, focused on the history of Kaohsiung, combined with the "hundred" font, supplemented by circular design, to develop the main visual of Kaohsiung 100 . Regardless of the vertical or horizontal identification combination form, you can feel the concept of "Kaohsiung One Hundred" at a glance. If you think carefully, you can feel the history and character of the city. The D in the auxiliary pattern expresses the start of Kaohsiung 100. Although it is a year late, it is not too late to understand the history of Kaohsiung and the history of your own life. At the same time, four standard colors of earth green, passionate red, democratic yellow, and steel gray were selected to symbolize the CMYK belonging to Kaohsiung and create the colorful Kaohsiung in everyone’s heart.
From now on, we will continue throughout the year, through Kaohsiung 100’s curation, forums, personal life history tracing activities, city memory collection activities, publication of publications, cultural and creative objects, Kaohsiung City Expo, etc., through this This is a rare opportunity for all Kaohsiung people and Taiwanese people to understand the urban development process of Kaohsiung.
