The kalimba is a very representative national instrument of Africa. It can also be called the thumb piano, because it is played by using the thumbs of the left and right hands to create melodies. This simple instrument creates a unique ethereal sound that is both relaxing and inspiring.

Name of the work: The trapped ones
Representative animal: Peacock
Materials: Maple wood, natural stones
When visiting Tsou Ma Lai Farm, I noticed that there are two peacocks who are kept in a small cage. As everyone knows, the biggest feature of the life of a male peacock is to show off by unfolding his tail, so that females can see their beauty. But how can they show the beauty of their tails when they are kept in this cage? One of the peacocks still insisted on spreading his feathers out, and there were many people taking pictures of his display of courtship. His eyes are telling other birds that I am the most beautiful. He proudly put his neck on the stage, as if telling others to envy me. But did he forget that he was in a cage and even though he opened his beautiful tail in order to get the envy of others, it was perhaps an ignorant and conceited behavior. The other peacocks were resting, as if telling this peacock who is putting on a performance, ‘Why don't you notice that everyone else is living a low-key life, just happy to be leisurely, does the flowery show really make you look better?’ What I took from this is that for some the urge to show off their beauty cannot be contained.
