Each spine sprouts numerous white velvety hairs, giving it the appearance of a white "golden barrel" cactus. It also produces beautiful, delicate pink flowers that bloom around the top, forming a circle when in full bloom. These flowers are small and elegant with many petals, similar to the Echinofossulocactus phyllacanthus, and are highly ornamental. The Echinocactus grusonii is also highly adaptable, making it ideal for home cultivation. Its summer blooming period is when it looks its absolute best. While it's a hardy cactus, proper care is still important to ensure it flowers prolifically and maintains its aesthetic appeal. | Soil | The Echinocactus grusonii is not overly demanding about soil, as long as it's breathable and sandy. A mix of peat moss, granular garden soil, and river sand in balanced proportions works well. This blend is not only fertile but also offers excellent drainage, preventing soil compaction. | Watering | The Echinocactus grusonii is remarkably drought-tolerant, requiring infrequent watering. Water thoroughly only when the soil feels quite dry. Aim for about two to three waterings per month to meet its hydration needs, making it perfect for busy individuals or those with a more relaxed approach to plant care. In drier summer months, you can lightly mist the air around the cactus, avoiding direct contact with the plant itself, to maintain humidity. Watering averages once every three weeks.
