Shuifei Sand, Emperor Sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand all belong to high-content quality cinnabar. Their **primary differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods.**
**「Shuifei Sand」**
**True red, with a slight orange undertone. The surface has a warm, matte luster that will become brighter with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, mixing it with water, letting it settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This liquid is then left to settle again for purification (the "shuifei" method). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then compressed using ancient methods. Upon cross-section, even, fine mineral sparkles can still be seen.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**Leans towards a true red, with a brighter hue and higher hardness.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/shuifei/high polishing** from natural cinnabar ore for gradual purification, followed by compression using ancient methods. Emperor Sand has almost no visible mineral sparkles on the surface, but has them internally. The surface is treated with a **high polishing** process to achieve a metallic texture, especially under sunlight, maximizing its metallic feel.
**「Purple Gold Sand」**
**The color leans towards purplish-red, with slightly lower hardness than Emperor Sand.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/screening** from natural cinnabar ore, but **without the shuifei purification process.** Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has small, scattered mineral sparkles, giving a "starry sky" appearance.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**The color leans towards purplish-red and is translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface, and under light, each particle is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**

**> Cinnabar**
The earliest documented records refer to cinnabar by a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogrammic compound. In ancient times, wells were dug to extract minerals, so the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a mine. This "something" is cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā), where "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
Cinnabar's color is exceptionally enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is also an indispensable component of "eight treasure ink paste," a primary ingredient.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that absorb the essence of the sun and moon, thus absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a very strong Yang energy field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm when held.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been indispensable in Taoist practices such as drawing talismans, consecration rituals, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent influences. Cinnabar has always been regarded by people as a supreme item for attracting luck, warding off evil, inviting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, prosperity, and well-being.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior substance, often used in medicinal treatments for its properties of calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate one's character, nourish the eyes, and soothe the heart.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a strong sense of weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products as control over time and area is difficult. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. True cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the aesthetic of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area for marking, or use a gifted bead for marking.)
**> Care**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not have metal, wooden, or plant-based accessories (such as Bodhi seeds), it can be lightly exposed to water but is not suitable for prolonged immersion, as this can affect its luster.**
**For braided cord styles, it is not recommended to get them wet. After cleaning, they should be air-dried before wearing, as wearing damp cords can lead to excessive moisture, which is not beneficial for the body.**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide component of cinnabar will only release at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is kept away from high-temperature environments during normal wear, it can be worn with peace of mind.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle; take care to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If the cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! Gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and allow it to air dry.
6. Oiling for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil and become more lustrous and clear. If applying oil, it can be sealed in a brocade box, perhaps wrapped in plastic film to prevent the oil from soiling the box lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your person, allowing the surface to acquire a thin layer of oil. Over time, it will become more antique and elegant.
The actual product is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
