This image is a replica from a page of the "Three Rarities Jade Album" (三希文翰玉冊) from the collection of the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Simply put, this is a four-page jade carving work. Emperor Qianlong, having acquired three exceptionally rare and precious calligraphy masterpieces (Wang Xizhi's "Clear Snow, Fine Weather Post," Wang Xun's "Bo Yuan Post," and (attributed to) Wang Xianzhi's "Mid-Autumn Festival Post"), joyfully placed them in a small room connected to the west side of the West Warm Pavilion in his sleeping quarters. Due to the rarity and preciousness of these three works, he named this small room the "Hall of Three Rarities" (三希堂). As is widely known, Emperor Qianlong himself was passionate about calligraphy and repeatedly created replicas of these three treasured calligraphies. The "Three Rarities Jade Album" is one such record. The "Three Rarities Jade Album" features these three precious calligraphic masterpieces, replicated by Emperor Qianlong, carved onto beautiful jade and filled with gold. This comprises three pieces. The fourth piece (presumably serving as a cover) is this exquisitely rendered dragon motif. Finally, these four long, rectangular jade pieces were assembled into a set and grandly stored within a brocade box. The National Palace Museum in Taipei holds as many as three such sets.
