About Wood Firing 'Wood firing' is a traditional kiln firing method, burning at high temperatures of over 1200 degrees Celsius using firewood. It features natural 'fire marks' left by the direct contact with firewood, and the ash naturally falling from the burning wood, resulting in a warm, lustrous, and richly varied glaze on the work – a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to ordinary electric and gas kilns, the entire process of wood firing, from loading the kiln, igniting, sealing, to cooling down, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the intense kiln pressure, along with factors like climate humidity, wood dryness, the speed of stoking the fire by the artisan, and the placement within the kiln, can all influence the success or failure of the work, leading to a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans consider the airflow dynamics within the kiln when loading. They meticulously plan the arrangement of works of different sizes, estimate the path of the rising flame, decide on the stoking of wood and charcoal, and manage the firing temperature. Every step requires complete focus to achieve a perfect wood-fired piece. Place of Origin: Hualien, Taiwan Precautions 1. Each piece is handmade, so textures and colors may vary. Computer screen displays may also differ. 2. Uneven surfaces, micro-bubbles, variations in glaze thickness, and crackled textures are normal characteristics of handmade items, not defects. 3. Each piece is stamped with the Bardur Ceramics seal or hand-carved by the artist (Mr. Cai Rong-Zong, Ms. Zhong Xuan-Hui). 4. Before first use, please wash with a sponge, mild detergent, and water. Do not heat directly over an open flame, and avoid drastic temperature changes. Microwave, oven, and electric cooker safe. 5. All works are photographed in kind.
