**◈ Designer's Notes**
The **Tourmaline** family, known as the "rainbow gemstone," has been revered since ancient times as "a rainbow fallen to earth" due to its rich and varied colors.
The designer has meticulously selected rare varieties from the tourmaline family, specifically **Blue Watermelon (bi-colored blue and pink) Tourmaline and Purple Tourmaline**, to showcase the most captivating and seldom-seen spectrum of tourmaline colors.
The entire piece is intricately carved with nine **Pixiu** figures (**symbols of wealth attraction, unparalleled skills, and unique strengths**) from **Blue Watermelon** Tourmaline. The main pendant features a **Purple Tourmaline** carved into a leaf (**symbolizing instant success and prosperity**), and a **Blue Watermelon** Tourmaline carved into an ancient coin (**representing new beginnings and renewal**). The overall symbolism is one of harmony and abundance.
Experienced tourmaline collectors know that **Purple Tourmaline** is an **extremely rare** hue within the tourmaline family, possessing significant collectible value.
The Blue Watermelon Tourmaline in this piece boasts **rich, full-bodied colors**, with a rare **purple luster** shimmering between the blue and red hues. Its **vibrant, blended colors** are rich and natural, standing apart from common Blue Watermelon Tourmalines found in the market, which often have stark color divisions, faded tones, or noticeable inclusions. This piece exhibits superior texture and color quality.
Complementing the vibrant hues of the tourmaline, natural **Mother-of-Pearl** with a sparkling iridescent sheen is crafted into **butterfly**-shaped 18K gold clasps, delicately accented with pearls. The pearls' gentle, soft luster introduces a subdued, Morandi-inspired aesthetic to the overall interplay of **red, purple, and blue**, lending the piece an air of understated elegance and sophistication amidst its splendor.
This creation embodies **striking visual dynamism**, **intricate craftsmanship**, and **timeless chic**. It is an unmissable classic for any tourmaline collector, whether for personal adornment or as a treasured collectible.
**This is a one-of-a-kind piece, awaiting its destined owner who embodies wisdom, prosperity, and career success.**
**Tourmaline**
Tourmaline, also known as "electric stone" or "rainbow gemstone," possesses powerful energy. Its vibrant, diverse colors and high transparency have made it cherished since antiquity.
Tourmaline exhibits a full spectrum of colors, and its energies are believed to correspond to the body's various chakras.
When selecting tourmaline, attention should be paid to its color and clarity. Most tourmalines display pleochroism (bi-colored or multi-colored coexistence), with pure single-colored specimens being extremely rare.
**Pixiu**
Legend has it that Pixiu are the offspring of dragons. With a lion's head, horns, and a beast-like body, they consume wealth and evil spirits, and are known to only ingest and never expel. This is why Pixiu are believed to possess the functions of "attracting wealth" and "warding off evil."
In ancient times, Pixiu were depicted as robust and fierce beasts. In modern interpretations, to suit popular sentiment, they are often portrayed as plump and auspicious, as if having eaten their fill of riches, appearing more endearing and comforting.
**Dragon's Nine Sons**
"The Dragon's Nine Sons" is a Chinese folk legend about the nine sons born to the dragon. In traditional Chinese culture, "nine" is a noble number, signifying multiplicity rather than a specific count.
There are various accounts of the Dragon's Nine Sons, largely originating from Ming Dynasty texts such as Li Dongyang's "Huailu Tang Ji" and Yang Shen's "Shen'an Ji." The order, names, and attributes often overlap. The author has compiled them as follows:
1. 'Bixi' (贔屭): Resembles a turtle, fond of carrying heavy loads. Often seen at the base of architectural pillars and on stone tablets.
2. 'Chiwen' (蚩吻): Dragon head, fish body. Fond of swallowing and gazing. Commonly found on building corners and roof ridges.
3. 'Pulao' (蒲牢): Small dragon-like body, known for its roaring and divine power. Often used as the beastly handle on bell yokes.
4. 'Bi'an' (狴犴): Resembles a tiger, fond of litigation. Frequently seen on prison gates or flanking the main hall of government offices.
5. 'Taotie' (饕餮): Appears as a fierce beast, gluttonous. Often decorated on bronze wares (ancient cooking vessels).
6. 'Chishou' (螭首): Hornless dragon with a large mouth and a belly capable of holding vast amounts of water. It can suppress fires and is therefore often found on drainage outlets and bridge pillars.
7. 'Yazi' (睚眦): Dragon head, jackal body. Known for its ferocity and love of combat. Commonly found on sword pommels and rings.
8. 'Suanni' (狻猊): Resembles a lion, enjoys smoke and sitting. Often found on incense burner lids, incense burner feet, and Buddha pedestals.
9. 'Jiaotu' (椒圖): Resembles a conch shell, fond of closing its mouth, dwelling in seclusion, and guarding its post. Commonly found as the decorative ring on large doors or as door stoppers.
10. 'Qiu Niu' (囚牛): A yellow young dragon with scales and horns. Gentle and fond of music. Often seen on the head of Guqins (a stringed instrument).
11. 'Chaofeng' (嘲風): Resembles a phoenix, a bird incarnation. Loves danger and is often placed on roof ridges of palaces or buildings to deter demons and ward off disasters.
12. 'Chihu' (螭虎): Resembles a dragon, fond of ornate patterns. Commonly seen on jade objects and inscriptions.
13. 'Fuxi' (負屭): Lion head, dragon body. Refined and fond of literature and calligraphy. Often coiled on the top of steles.
15. 'Kel Ling' (蚵蛉): Resembles a dragon, fond of wind and rain. Commonly found on roof ridges.
16. 'Jin Wu' (金吾): Resembles a mythical fish (Ao Yu) with winged tail. Spiritual and never sleeps, thus suitable for patrol duties.
17. 'Pixiu' (貔貅): Dragon head, with horns, a mouth but no anus, only takes in and does not expel. Thus, it can absorb wealth and guard treasures.
**Pearl**
The English word "Pearl" originates from the Latin "Pemnla," meaning "pride of the sea." Throughout Eastern and Western history, pearls have symbolized health, purity, and nobility, and are the birthstone for June.
Pearls, amber, and coral are the world's three major organic gemstones, with pearls hailed as the king of organic gemstones.
Pearls are produced by bivalve mollusks. Their main chemical component is calcium carbonate. They have low hardness and are soluble in acids and alkalis. Therefore, pearls should not be in prolonged contact with coarse fabrics or hard objects, and should be kept away from cosmetics, perfumes, dyes, and any chemicals. They should also not be oiled for maintenance.
Pearls boast magnificent and rich colors, with delicate and soft tones ranging from warm hues of yellow, gold, orange, pink, and cream white, to cool tones of green, blue, indigo, purple, and gray.
Pearls can form naturally or be cultured. Currently, 99% of pearls on the market are cultured.
Natural pearls are primarily found in the Persian Gulf region and India, as well as freshwater pearls from Tennessee, USA.
Cultured pearls benefit from Japan's most mature technology, producing the highest quality. Other producing regions include China, Tahiti, Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar in the South Seas.
Cultured pearls can be divided into four types:
1. Whole-kernel cultured pearls - Tend to be rounder. (Perfectly round natural pearls are extremely rare.)
2. Blister pearls - A bead nucleus is attached to the shell, allowing the pearl to grow around it.
3. Mabe pearls - Pronounced "Ma-bay" from Japanese. They are half-spherical, also called "bun pearls" or "half-round pearls."
4. Nucleus-free cultured pearls - Freshwater cultured pearls. As they lack a nucleus, they are used for grinding into pearl powder.
**Mother-of-Pearl**
"Mother-of-Pearl" is the collective term for bivalve mollusks capable of forming pearls. The inner lining of their shells secretes nacre over time, creating iridescent pearl layers and nurturing pearls, much like a mother.
Mother-of-pearl possesses captivating luster and shifting colors, rivaling pearls themselves. Thus, for centuries, it has been popular to polish and process mother-of-pearl into artworks and ornaments, symbolizing luxury and splendor for royalty in both Eastern and Western cultures.
Common types of mother-of-pearl include:
1. Black-lip Oyster (Pinctada margaritifera): Found in the waters of French Polynesia, shells can reach up to 30 cm in length, and it is the sole mother-of-pearl for Tahitian "black pearls."
2. Silver-lip Oyster (Pinctada maxima): Primarily inhabits the northern Australian seas, producing large-diameter South Sea "white pearls."
3. Gold-lip Oyster (Pinctada maxima): Mainly produced in the South Pacific, such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Myanmar, nurturing highly valuable "South Sea golden pearls." Natural golden pearls are pale yellow; those treated with radiation are a more intense yellow.
4. Akoya Oyster (Pinctada fucata martensii): Concentrated in Japan's Seto Inland Sea, shells are 7-8 cm long and are renowned for producing Akoya pearls.
5. Triangle Shell Mussel (Hyriopsis cumingii): Used in pearl cultivation, multiple bead nuclei can be implanted at once to grow more pearls. Most other mussels can implant about 5 nuclei at a time.
6. Penguin Oyster (Hyriopsis schlegeli): Primarily distributed in the waters of Indonesia, China, and Taiwan. Its shell has a silvery-gray nacre and is often used to cultivate half-round pearls.
7. Conch Shell: The Queen Conch (Strombus gigas) found in the Caribbean Sea produces pearls known as "Conch Pearls." Conch pearls cannot be artificially cultured.
There is a saying in the jewelry world: "The Conch Pearl is widely considered the Rolls-Royce of the pearl world," describing its top-tier, incomparable, and luxurious status. This has led to the Queen Conch being referred to as the "Hermès" of mother-of-pearl.

**◈ On Use and Collection**
1. Natural gemstones possess natural luster and unique textures (minor inclusions, stone patterns, ice cracks, cloudiness, mineral defects, asymmetry, and other natural details). With regular wear, you will observe subtle color changes in natural gemstones, often making them appear more translucent and captivating, which is also the best form of maintenance.
Natural organic gemstones (such as coral and amber) have low hardness and are sensitive to acids and alkalis. When soiled, avoid using detergents. Clean with plain water and wipe with a soft cloth. You may also lightly brush with a soft brush dipped in a small amount of mineral oil (such as baby oil) for care.
2. Metal jewelry has a very long lifespan, provided it is protected from external damage or strong acids and alkalis that could cause fading.
3. Fabric materials (ribbons, cotton, gauze) are soft and comfortable to the touch and have a long lifespan, provided they are kept away from high temperatures, external damage, or strong acids and alkalis that could cause fading.
4. For jewelry of any material, when soiled, it is advisable to wipe with a soft cloth dampened with water as appropriate, or use a suitable amount of neutral detergent for applicable materials. After washing, ensure it is dried promptly.
5. When jewelry is removed, it should be properly packaged and stored to minimize exposure to air, slowing down oxidation and discoloration. Avoid stacking or crushing.
