A difference of 3 cm in height changes the way your furry friend eats. While the bowl capacity might double, it is important to consider whether your pet can actually reach the bottom of the bowl.
The Round Bowl Stand is the first collection from 9house, defined by its signature rounded design language. The series is available in three sizes: Small, Large, and Extra Large, with both single and double bowl options for each. First, calculate your pet's portion size to choose the bowl, then measure their height.

They reach down while standing tall. This photo doesn’t show how they used to eat—collapsing their entire body down toward the floor.
■ Legs attached to the edges, not the underside
Most bowl stands on the market attach the legs to the bottom of the frame. The four legs of our Round Bowl Stand are attached to the side edges.
This wasn't a calculated design choice; it was a beautiful accident.
When we made the first prototype, the circular frame was too narrow. To avoid drilling through the inner circumference, we had no choice but to drill from the edge of the lower rim. The result surprised the designer—a compromise that wasn't planned created a beautiful upward-extending arc at the joint.
Furthermore, to make the most of our materials, after developing the side-mounted legs on the first prototype, the designer added extra wood to thicken the frame to find the right proportions. Beautiful design rarely happens all at once; you might get a hint from destiny (the side-mounted legs), but finding the perfect proportions requires dedication.
That first-generation prototype, which we couldn't bear to throw away, still bears the marks of the added wood—it’s now in the designer's home, and his Shiba Inu still uses it today.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_7402-2-683x1024.jpg
The joint forms an upward arc. It was originally cut this way just to avoid drilling through the inner circle.
■ Six bowl types, each with its own leg thickness
Meteor 20mm, Peanut 20mm, LARGE,SINGLE 30mm, LARGE,DOUBLE 33mm, and Extra Large 35mm.
The differences are only 2 to 3 millimeters, nearly imperceptible to the naked eye, but when placed side by side, you can immediately tell if the proportions are right. If the legs are too thin, large stands look unstable; if the legs are too thick, small stands look bulky.
Changing the Meteor leg diameter from 18mm to 20mm is the only dimension we have changed in this series over many years of production. The designer spent a long time deciding on those 2 millimeters—it makes the stand look rounder and ensures it stands even more firmly.
■ Milled from a single piece of solid wood, continuous grain
The frame is milled from a single block of solid wood.
A common commercial approach is to use small pieces of wood finger-jointed together. It’s efficient and usually budget-friendly, but the wood grain breaks at every segment, losing the natural beauty of the wood once milled into a circle.
That is why our designer chooses solid blocks of beech: we select large enough pieces and go through numerous processes to let the natural beauty of the grain emerge. Beech has a fine texture, making the finished surface smoother. Walnut and oak can also be used, but their coarser wood fibers make painting and moisture-sealing more labor-intensive, and the results are not always as consistent.
The Extra Large size is the only exception. Because it is so large, finding a thick, singular piece of material is difficult and expensive, so our bottom line is to combine at least two pieces—but we still refuse to use small, pieced-together scraps.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_3089-%E7%B7%A8%E8%BC%AF-scaled-1-1024x683.jpg
The wood grain runs continuously around the frame with no breaks.
■ Sanding is the most labor-intensive step
The most time-consuming part of this product is the sanding—a great deal of sanding.
The circular frame, milled from a solid piece of wood, contains both straight and reverse grain. Straight grain is easy to sand, but reverse grain can easily develop pits, so to make the bowl stand feel smooth and even, it must be sanded meticulously with progressively finer grit sandpaper.
The grain on the outer circle behaves differently than the inner circle of the bowl hole, requiring different sanding methods. The inner circle is too small for large sanding machines, and manual sanding isn't precise enough, so we use a special vertical sander.
The 90-degree corners on the circumference require special attention—paint doesn't adhere easily to corners, and if not sanded well, they are vulnerable to moisture. We manually sand them until they are smooth, creating a gentle curve that allows the paint to hold.
Finally, there are the leg holes. After milling, the edges are sharp and the walls are thin, so each hole edge is manually beveled with a small grinder to create a smooth, gentle radius—if the wall thickness isn't sufficient, the paint will flake off.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_7371-1-1024x683.jpg
The arc around the hole edge is created one by one using a small grinder.
■ Precise drilling of the bowl holes
The bowl hole is opened slightly larger than the bowl diameter, but no more than 5 mm.
The designer initially thought that drilling a perfect circle and dropping the bowl in would be enough. The problem wasn't in our precision—it’s that ceramic bowls are made of clay and fired in a kiln, and they don't always come out as perfect circles. At first, he thought his compass was broken because the bowls wouldn't fit.
This 5mm is a margin left for the warping of ceramic bowls. If it's too tight, the bowl won't fit; if it's too loose, the bowl will wobble or be tipped over.
To be safe, the designer tests the fit with the actual bowl before every shipment.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/%E8%A9%A6%E6%8B%8D2-1085-1024x819.jpg
The gap between the bowl rim and the wood is left to account for ceramic deformation.
■ Custom-molded foot covers
The four silicone foot covers are custom-molded, semi-circular caps with a thickness of about 1 to 2 mm. We spent a lot of effort finding the right supplier.
We even thought about dipping the legs in silicone ourselves—for three days, I played chemist, buying silicone raw materials and even special pigments. The results were disappointing: the coating was only 0.1 to 0.3 mm thick, had poor durability, and wore off quickly. The consistency and flow were also unstable, not to mention we would have to dip them for every order. The designer firmly rejected this method.
These silicone foot covers have lived up to the effort it took to find them—every customer since launch has been satisfied with their performance, and no one has reported them hardening or becoming brittle. The only issue we've encountered is customers losing them while taking them off. ><
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_8063-2-3-1024x683.jpg
It took a long time to find someone willing to mold these semi-circular caps. The ones we dipped ourselves were too thin and wore out quickly.
■ A paint finish that resists splashes
The surface is finished with water-based wood paint, and we do not use solvent-based (oil-based) paints.
Water splashes bead up on the surface and can simply be wiped away. However, it cannot withstand prolonged soaking—if water is left to pool on the surface for a long time, the paint layer will age quickly and eventually crack.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_2385-1024x682.jpg
Water beads up and can be wiped off; just don't let it sit, or the paint will age faster.
■ Three sizes, for three types of dogs
The three sizes of the Round Bowl Stand differ by more than just bowl capacity. The size of the frame, the thickness of the legs, and the height options all change. You can first choose the small, large, or extra-large bowl type based on your pet's typical portion size (in cups per meal). Then, read on to see how to select the right one.
■ Large: For pets similar to Shiba Inus or mixed breeds (15 to 30 cm)
The Large bowl is 16 cm wide, with a choice between a 755ml ceramic bowl (approx. 2 cups) or a 1100ml stainless steel bowl (approx. 3.5 cups). The single bowl version is called LARGE,SINGLE, and the double bowl version is called LARGE,DOUBLE. Medium to medium-large breeds like Shiba Inus and mixed breeds usually fit this type best. The LARGE,SINGLE bowl stand was a 2019 Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award winner, and its design language has become one of the signature features of 9house.
There are three preset heights: 15, 22, and 30 cm—double the height of the small series. The legs are 30 mm thick, or 33 mm for the double bowl version, and the frame is sized accordingly. The legs flare out at a 20-degree angle; the taller the stand, the wider the legs spread. The Large frame is substantial enough that the legs can spread to the 30 cm distance while maintaining perfect proportions, without looking like they are jutting out. Furthermore, the wider the legs spread, the higher the stability.
How to choose between the two bowls: Ceramic bowls are microwave and dishwasher safe; stainless steel bowls have 350ml more capacity and are shatterproof, though they cannot be microwaved. For pets that like to pick up their bowls to play, stainless steel is a worry-free choice.
■ The development of the bowl stand series, one step at a time
The first bowl stand was made for our own Shiba Inu. He was over a year old and ate off the floor using a small stainless steel bowl. The designer observed three things: the bowl was a bit small; the bowl had to be placed on a cloth or he would push it away while eating; and he was very restless, always making a mess while eating.
So, after finishing the first 'Kangaroo Nest', when it came time to brainstorm the second product, a bowl stand was the most natural choice.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_5300-1024x1024.jpg
The Shiba Inu in the photo is where it all started. His dedicated height is 18 cm, which isn't a preset height—it was custom-made for him.
Initially, there were only three bowl types because we wanted them to be easy for customers to remember, but as the series developed, having too many unique names became confusing. So we streamlined it: 'Round Bowl Stand' is the general name, divided by bowl size and single/double configuration.
Now, you don't need to memorize names to choose a stand; just measure the height and calculate the food portion.
■ How to choose
■ First, confirm if you need a bowl stand
If your pet is very small and only needs a bowl height of 3 or 4 cm, a simple bowl is enough—just make sure it doesn't slide. But if you are looking for a stand because they eat aggressively and push the bowl around, please contact our designer to discuss the best solution.
■ How big should the bowl be? Look at how much they eat
The size of the bowl is not based on height, but on food portion. The Round Bowl Stand comes in three bowl size tiers, each with single and double options:
Bowl Size | Single Bowl | Double Bowl | Capacity per bowl
Small | Meteor Stand | Peanut Stand | Ceramic 275ml (approx. 0.8 cups of kibble)
Large | LARGE,SINGLE Stand | LARGE,DOUBLE Stand | Ceramic 755ml (approx. 2 cups of kibble) or Stainless Steel 1100ml (approx. 3.5 cups)
Extra Large | Extra Large Single | Extra Large Double | Stainless Steel 2200ml (approx. 7 cups, **stainless steel only**)
Cups are measured by a 240ml measuring cup for dry kibble; 'ml' refers to the actual water capacity of the bowl.
Single bowls are for food; double bowls are one for food and one for water.
A bowl that is too big is also a problem. If the pet is small and the bowl is too large, they will eventually be unable to reach the food in the middle. So, look at the portion size first, then the height.
■ Height: Please measure it yourself
Every pet has a different build, so height cannot be matched by breed—please measure it yourself.
Have them stand with all four feet flat, body naturally relaxed, and find the bony prominence at the top of the shoulder blade, then find the elbow joint of the front leg. Take the midpoint between these two points and measure the distance from this point to the floor.
When the bowl is placed on the stand, it is about 1 cm higher than the surface, which is negligible—just match your measured number to the preset height. Choose the largest size that does not exceed your measurement, and round down; do not round up.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/08/%E7%A2%97%E6%9E%B6%E9%AB%98%E5%BA%A6%E9%87%8F%E6%B8%AC_%E7%8B%97-1024x655.png
Measure the distance from the floor to the point between the top of the shoulder blade and the front elbow joint.
The measurement points and conversion rules are defined based on the practical experience of 9house designers and do not follow AKC/FCI breed standards; the figures are approximate ranges, not guaranteed specifications.
If you are unsure how to choose after measuring, or if your number falls right between two tiers, please contact our designer, and he will provide advice based on his past experience.
■ Flat or tilted?
Generally, we recommend a flat surface. A tilt reduces the bowl's capacity by about 10%.
We only recommend a tilt in these situations:
- If your measurement falls right between two tiers—use the larger size with a tilt, which will lower the front edge.
- Pets with short noses (French Bulldogs, Pugs, etc.)—the bowl needs an angle for their face to fit in.
- Normal-sized Chihuahuas—the 8 cm tilted version lowers the front edge to about 6.5 cm.
- Pets already accustomed to a tilted bowl surface—they are used to eating that way, so there's no need to change it.
The indicated height is the **center of the bowl surface**. Taking the 8 cm tilted model as an example: the rear edge is 9.5 cm, the center is 8 cm, and the front edge is 6.5 cm, with a 3 cm difference. All bowl types have a 3 cm tilt difference.
These are recommendations, not restrictions. If you want a tilt, choose it, and we will make it.
■ Ceramic or stainless steel?
This table shows which bowls go with which model:
Bowl Type | Ceramic Bowl | Stainless Steel Bowl
Small Single/Double | 275ml | —
Large Single/Double | 755ml | 1100ml
Extra Large Single/Double | — | 2200ml
**Extra Large is only available with stainless steel bowls**—there is no corresponding ceramic bowl for that capacity.
Ceramic bowls are microwave safe. Stainless steel bowls have a larger capacity and are shatterproof, but cannot be microwaved.
■ Is your pet's height not listed in the options?
Bowl stand heights have been customizable since the very first model was released—it’s not a new service; the designer knows how important it is to find the right bowl stand for every pet.
When the number you measured isn't in the preset options, or your pet has special needs, please use the 'Contact Designer' button on the site to discuss it with the designer, and he will provide advice based on his past experience.
If you have already determined the exact height you need, you can select 'Custom Height' in the height options (Small 8–20 cm, Large 10–40 cm, Extra Large 20–55 cm) and write the actual height in the order notes. If you have other requests regarding the bowl material or quantity, include those in the notes as well.

■ Three checkpoints, controlling formaldehyde at the source
Formaldehyde emissions for engineered wood are divided into three grades; the legal threshold in Taiwan is F3, with F1 being the highest.
Grade | Formaldehyde Emission (Avg) | What this grade represents
F1 | ≤ 0.3 mg/L | Highest grade, equivalent to Japan's F☆☆☆☆. The best rating for engineered furniture.
F2 | ≤ 0.5 mg/L | Common grade in Taiwan and Japan, 1.7 times the allowance of F1.
F3 | ≤ 1.5 mg/L | Minimum legal threshold in Taiwan; products failing this cannot be sold. 5 times the allowance of F1.
However, the solid wood materials used by 9house are not on this table. Materials, glue, and paint—each of the three checkpoints is handled with persistence.
**1st Checkpoint | Material** This grading table is for engineered wood: particleboard or fiberboard pressed with glue, which requires monitoring for formaldehyde. 9house uses natural solid wood, which requires no added formaldehyde and thus has no grade.
**2nd Checkpoint | Glue** Solid wood boards are typically only 10-20 cm wide. Making larger boards requires edge-gluing, and joining wooden parts also requires glue. We use water-based woodworking glue for boards, not formaldehyde-based resins.
**3rd Checkpoint | Paint** Water-based wood paint was tested for formaldehyde by SGS Chemical Laboratory (Kaohsiung) and was found to be below the detection limit of 0.1 mg/L, with the F1 threshold being 0.3. Report KC/2017/60064A-01, June 14, 2017. The tested sample was EPnS water-based wood paint, not the finished product.
And we don't claim our paint is 'food grade'—after all, we don't drink water-based paint directly.

■ Questions you might have before buying
■ Some pets actually don't need a bowl stand
If your pet is very small and a bowl height of 3 or 4 cm is enough, just give them a bowl and make sure it doesn't slide. If you are specifically looking for a stand because the bowl slides, that makes more sense.
■ About assembly
The four legs are screwed on by hand; no tools are needed, and there are no hardware kits to inventory.
Before shipping, we fully assemble every piece once—to confirm that the legs have the correct diameter, the height matches the order requirements, and the four legs screw smoothly into the frame. We re-verify every time, then disassemble it for packing.
■ Will the ceramic bowl wobble?
Although the bowl hole is intentionally opened slightly larger than the bowl diameter, it is no more than 5 mm. This is because ceramic bowls are clay-formed and fired in a kiln, which doesn't always result in a perfect circle; the 5 mm is a margin for deformation. However, we test-fit the bowl before every shipment to ensure that it is stable on the stand during feeding.
■ Is the bowl microwaveable?
The ceramic bowl is; you can microwave it directly without issue. **The stainless steel bowl is NOT microwaveable.** If you choose the stainless steel bowl, please transfer food to another container before heating.
■ Surface and cleaning
The surface is finished with water-based wood paint; we do not use solvent-based (oil-based) paints. For daily cleaning, simply wipe with a cloth dampened with water or a neutral detergent. **Please do not use alcohol**—water-based paint naturally has lower resistance to alcohol.
The paint finish resists splashes but not prolonged soaking. If it gets wet, wipe it dry; do not let water pool on the surface.
■ The natural appearance of wood
For solid wood products, wood grain, color differences, and knots are natural. Knots cannot be filled to be invisible—hard filling makes the color even more prominent, so our approach is to place the side with obvious knots on the inside, where it is not visible from the outside.
■ Will the ceramic bowl break during shipping?
Early on, we often encountered breakage when shipping ceramic bowls abroad, and this occurred even after trying various cardboard designs. Later, I saw fruit vendors packing fruit in inflatable bags and found the solution: the frame is wrapped first, and the ceramic bowl is placed inside an inflatable bag and fixed next to the frame, providing an extra layer of protection. Since then, the breakage rate has been almost zero.
