Flower Fairy Alphabet Series Classic Postcard - Herb Twopence

Flower Fairy Alphabet Series Classic Postcard This illustration is by the British artist Cicely Mary Barker (1895-1973), who was renowned for her detailed depictions of plants and flowers. Inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite movement, her artwork captures an ethereal and artistic beauty. Elves have long been present in European literature and folklore, embodying a unique beauty and representing ideals of truth, goodness, and beauty. Cicely Mary Barker's creations can be seen as a reflection of the 20th-century British imagination and longing for these magical beings. In 1923, she published her first book, "Flower Fairies of the Spring," featuring illustrations of flower fairies accompanied by short poems written by the artist. These poems describe the characteristics of each fairy, imbued with a childlike wonder and romantic magic. In Britain, her work transcended children's literature, also gaining widespread appreciation among adults. This postcard features the letter "H" from the alphabet series, representing "Herb Twopence." Our collection primarily consists of vintage European pieces, not new items.
