Teacher Liang Shichang has always hoped to integrate the style of landscape painting into ceramic works, and create the desired appearance through meaningful layout during the creative process, instead of just letting the glaze flow and change randomly, and then looking at the pictures to tell the story.
The Yanhui Jindu series is the implementation of this concept. The gray or brown texture seen on the outer layer is the twist tire formula studied by the author himself. It is meaningfully arranged around the outer edge of the cup, soaked in glaze and fired, and the inside of the earth tire is The chemical element zinc is formed by interacting with it. The finished product is twisted to form the image of a mountain range, and the remaining blank space creates the river and the mist of the mountain. Together with two geese, a small boat or a pavilion, it is as if you are immersed in the scene, overlooking the mountains of the Yanjiang River, and the tranquil and far-reaching artistic conception. But life.
The clay body of the tea bowl is also mixed with specially selected fine stones. The author believes that ceramic works come from nature and should not only have fine clay, but also Stone. For this series, he specially selected stones that will not melt at 1235 degrees to be mixed. It is finished, and the cup body is deliberately hand-molded into an irregular shape, giving back the original appearance of clay with a simple appearance.
"Find inspiration in nature and freehand in the glaze soil"
Ceramic master Liang Shichang was born in Tainan in 1957. At the age of 26, he learned hand-pulling from Master Yingge Weng Guozhen. He entered the world of ceramics and held many ceramics exhibitions. His research on glazes is in-depth and comprehensive, and he can use it skillfully. He has repeatedly exceeded his own limits in the field of glaze works and created amazing works.
In 1999, Teacher Liang Shichang realized that his creation had reached a bottleneck. He didn't know how to proceed on the road of pottery art. He resolutely gave up creation and devoted himself to jade appraisal. It was not until 2021 that he decided to resume pottery creation and spent two years getting familiar with glaze. Medicine, making hundreds of samples, hoping to come up with different styles.
Teacher Liang Shichang's current works are mainly glaze paintings. He seeks inspiration from nature and uses no more than two types of glazes as his principle to create, namely artistic glaze and ceramic glaze. When making, first select a glaze that can express the theme, and then use the characteristics of the glaze, thickness, overlap, isolation, glaze picking, tie-dyeing or rendering to create the conceived scenery, and then simply draw two strokes of the pattern in the appropriate position to complete the look. Set off the artistic conception of the picture, and then bake it into the finished product.
In addition to glazes, other materials that can be used for painting include the use of the exploded texture and twisted tread of adobe, as well as natural leaves or minerals.
Regarding returning to ceramic creation, teacher Liang Shichang found inspiration in nature and freehand brushwork in the glaze soil. Various ideas sprung up like mushrooms after a rain. “I can express my artistic conception with my good tool skills, glaze knowledge and painting expertise. This thing makes me very happy and satisfied. I hope to establish my own pottery style this time.”
