This charming angel motif originates from the painting "Madonna di San Sisto" (The Sistine Madonna) by the Italian Renaissance master Raphael, a renowned representation of the Virgin Mary. It was originally displayed in the Church of San Sisto, rebuilt in memory of Pope Sixtus I, and adorned the church's shrine. Until 1574, it remained within the Church of San Sisto, thus lending its name to the motif. This particular piece was acquired in France, featuring a relief on the front and an "ANGE" stamp on the reverse. It can be worn on either side. The intricate details of such pendants are truly delightful to observe; even the bail is perfectly rounded and possesses a pleasing thickness. The material is gold-filled. A small mark is present on the bail, which upon magnification reveals letters and a small symbol. A 50cm chain will be included with your purchase.
