Characters of Hong Kong Vol.1 - Tonight We Hunt the Tiger

The series is named 《Characters of Hong Kong》. As the name suggests, "Characters" refers to the Traditional Chinese characters themselves, but can also be interpreted as Hong Kong's unique characteristics, or representative local figures/elements. Amidst an identity crisis, language has seemingly become our most direct common ground. This time, we aim to explore local culture by delving into various characteristic Hong Kong fonts. While seeking resonance, we connect with each other, expressing heartfelt messages in our own handwriting to send to friends and family, both far away and still holding Hong Kong in their hearts. As a calligraphy practice sheet x postcard, it naturally needs a unique way to be displayed. Thus, we have been contemplating how to integrate the packaging into the product, making it an integral part of the item. The series uses extra-thick paper, which not only protects the metal bookmarks inside but also prevents the awkward creasing that can occur when a letter is received. The use of brass screws instead of glue to seal it allows for repeated opening and closing without damaging the paper. To serve multiple purposes, we have designed a three-page, four-fold opening mechanism. Combined with the perforated design and brass screws, it can be displayed on both sides, becoming an aesthetic piece on your desk. —————————————————— Vol. 1 ——《Tonight We Hunt the Tiger》(今晚打老虎). The font used is the "Bao Bei Wei Ti" (爆北魏體) created by artist K Sir. Coinciding with the Year of the Tiger, the theme revolves around the traditional customs of "beating villains" (打小人) and "offering sacrifices to the White Tiger" (祭白虎). Starting with a yellow paper tiger, six metal bookmarks have been developed. Each of the six tigers has a distinct expression, and they are respectively named: Fierce Tiger, Careless Tiger, Ferocious Tiger, Hungry Tiger, Smiling Tiger, and Little Tiger. You can also mimic the paper tigers in reality, bending the limbs of the six tigers and standing them on your desk, exuding a powerful tiger's might. In addition to the six tigers, accompanying props and offerings such as an old shoe, fatty pork, and villain paper are included, allowing everyone to experience the ritual of beating villains.
