Japanese Kutani-yaki five-leaf small plate│Showa period with falling cherry blossoms
◤ Kutani ware was born in the early Edo period (the second half of the 17th century). It is said that it was a porcelain that began to shine more than 1,600 years ago with the support of Maeda Toshiharu, the feudal lord who governed the Daishoji clan. It is said that during the mining development process, Kutani Village in the territory accidentally found clay Stone that could be used as raw materials for porcelain, and then introduced the Arita (Saga Domain) technology famous for Imari ware and began to produce porcelain.
The name "Kutani-yaki" comes from the fact that the kiln where the pottery is fired happens to be located in Kutani Village, where the clay Stone is produced.
The so-called Jiugu Wucai: painted with hard color pigments such as green, yellow, red, purple and indigo. What is "painting"? It refers to a technique in which the pottery that has been kiln-fired and glazed is then painted with paint to outline a pattern of one's own design and sent to the kiln again for firing. It is characterized by bright colors. Kutani ware is completed through more than a dozen manual processes including quarrying, crushing, screening, precipitation, forming, baking, biscuit firing, painting, glazing, firing, painting and then firing. The process is very complicated.
Kutani-yaki porcelain has three distinct characteristics: the use of strong colors, unique composition style, hand-painted techniques and inscriptions.
Thanks to the strong support of the Kaga Domain at that time, Kutani ware was able to develop a unique ceramic aesthetic in a short period of time, and it had fans who were dedicated to it. The free and unrestrained composition and painting create unique works, which are deeply loved and collected by tea-loving literati.

The maintenance methods of porcelain are as follows:
1. Wash by hand when cleaning, because the glaze of porcelain is delicate and can be easily scratched. Remember not to use a rough cloth to clean the porcelain surface to avoid scratches.
2. Clean the porcelain with water. The water temperature should not exceed 70 degrees, and do not soak the porcelain in hot water for too long to avoid affecting the appearance of the porcelain.
3. After cleaning the porcelain, let it air dry naturally or wipe it with a soft cloth. Do not put it in drying equipment such as high-temperature sterilization cupboards.
4. If there are stains on the porcelain, it is best to wash them off immediately. Do not let the stains stay on the porcelain for a long time. If the porcelain is stained by tea or coffee, you can use lemon juice or vinegar to clean it.
5. When cleaning porcelain in winter, the water temperature needs to be controlled to prevent the porcelain from exploding due to freezing or exposure to hot water. It is best to use wooden or plastic basins to clean porcelain. Avoid using porcelain and Cement basins to avoid damage to the porcelain.
