Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm and durable texture. The surface color gradually darkens. Additionally, the oils from your hands and friction from daily use create a lustrous patina, allowing leather goods made from vegetable-tanned leather to develop unique changes over time and with use. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Therefore, farmers do not meticulously protect the cattle's skin. As a result, cattle may have scars from insect bites, scratches, or thorns during their lives. Free-ranging cattle might also bear branding marks, and as they grow, they develop natural lines and wrinkles. In cases of difficult birth, a mother cow might have a C-section scar. When the cattle are mature and processed for meat, the skinning process can also leave knife marks. These marks are faithfully preserved on the leather when it's made into cowhide, serving as proof of the animal's life journey. They often send the leather to processing plants for buffing and surface coating, resulting in a clean appearance but lacking a natural character. The resulting characters appear as burnt black marks. Therefore, this service cannot be applied to dark-colored leathers such as black, dark blue, etc. ▴ Some items require laser engraving during production. Ready-made stock cannot be laser engraved and must be scheduled for separate production. Please contact customer service to inquire about production timelines when selecting this service. 🌞Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and degrade. Once dry, you can apply leather conditioner to replenish the leather's oils. You can also spray a waterproofing agent on the surface to protect against everyday spills and enhance surface protection. For storage or long-term non-use, place the item in an electronic dehumidifier with humidity controlled between 50%-60% to prevent mold, or use a sealed bag with a desiccant for a similar effect. Cowhide will not undergo excessive grinding or heavy surface coatings. There may be slight variations in color, texture, and minor scars. If you require a perfectly flawless leather surface, it may be difficult to fulfill your request, and we regret that we cannot accept requests for "flawless leather surfaces." Furthermore, once an item has been engraved or laser engraved, returns will not be accepted unless there was a production error.
