Vitaly Bianki (1894-1959) Only someone like Bianki, who deeply loved nature, could create such vivid natural literature for readers. His father was a biologist, and Bianki, influenced by him, adored nature from childhood, developing a strong interest in animal knowledge and the mysteries of the natural world. Besides specializing in ornithology at university, he also pursued art research, drawing plants and animals. Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932) Grahame was a British author of children's literature. Helen Keller (1880-1968) Born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, in 1880, she lost her sight and hearing at eighteen months due to a severe illness. For a time, she communicated with her family using a system of invented signs. In 1887, she received assistance from Miss Anne Sullivan, who taught her sign language and Braille, and soothed the impatience and helplessness that arose from her deaf-blindness. In 1890, Principal Sarah Fuller taught her to speak. With the help of these two mentors, Helen Keller received a formal education and, with astonishing perseverance, completed her studies at Radcliffe College (then affiliated with Harvard), becoming the first deaf-blind person in history to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
