French Vintage Lancel Black Leather Shoulder Bag

Made in Italy, this is a unique vintage leather bag from the premium French leather goods brand Lancel. Crafted from premium black cowhide leather, it boasts a soft and lightweight texture, adorned with the embossed "L" logo representing the brand Lancel on the front. Instead of a zipper or clasp design, the bag features a thick shoulder strap at the top, which tightens and closes through a semi-circular silver buckle, with a short buckle strap in the middle that offers two adjustable lengths. The main compartment's interior is also leather-lined, with a zipper pocket and a small gold plaque engraved with the brand Lancel and "Made in Italy". Overall, it's in very good condition, with only slight wear on the four corners at the bottom. Founded in Paris in 1876, Lancel initially specialised in manufacturing and selling pipes and tobacco-related accessories before diversifying into various ornaments and gifts. The brand had its own craftsmen producing a wide range of items such as clocks, gold items, glasses, barometers, scissors, lamps, and desk accessories. Lancel was also the originator of several patents, including the automatic lighter, Aviona luggage, and the portable radio Bambino. In 1929, George Washington Hill, the president of the American Tobacco Company, decided to lift the taboo against women smoking in public. He argued that cigarettes were a symbol of patriarchy, and allowing women to smoke in public was tantamount to granting them equal rights. The democratisation of female smoking encouraged Lancel to produce more products for smokers, with leather goods becoming a "must-have for storing tobacco," leading the company to introduce its first handbag. Today, Lancel has become a globally renowned leather goods brand, offering four product lines: leather goods, small leather goods, travel bags, and accessories.
