When TROIKA Germany, our parent company, informed me about an upcoming series of globe-related products, I was momentarily stunned, much like finding myself in a Costco produce cooler, or eating shaved ice too quickly – my mind just froze. To help myself warm up, I decided to experience the sample I received in the most fundamental way: by sharing my space with it. My previously minimalist room now housed a 30cm globe. Every morning upon waking, after returning from work, or even while binge-watching shows on weekends (the latest being a gem from Netflix's collection), my eyes would drift to it. It made me think about catching a Rockets game when I visited Houston. It also reminded me of being left stranded by my Airbnb host at 11:00 PM in Dallas, shivering on the street. The concept of great-circle routes, taught by my middle school (or was it high school?) teacher, resurfaced from long-term memory. Honestly, for me, Google Earth lacks the 3D spatial dimension of a physical globe, making it impossible to truly grasp the significance of great-circle routes.
