Starting with a sketch, the clay is shaped and then left to dry slightly. This process of shaping and drying is repeated several times. We produce enough for a single kiln firing, which takes about a month. The initial bisque firing takes 7 hours. After removing from the kiln and wiping with water, each piece is individually glazed and undergoes a final firing of 12 hours. Some pieces are finished with gold glaze and re-enter the kiln for another 7 hours. As they require slow cooling, we wait about 2 days after each firing before removing them from the kiln. Finally, each piece is inspected, and pins are attached to those that meet our standards. Currently, our success rate is around 70%. This process requires considerable time and effort, but the result is a decorative brooch that combines the tactile feel of clay, the strength of ceramic, the sheen of glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents. We believe these are items that can be cherished for a long time, remaining as beautiful as they are today.
