Kiriko glass made by independent Kiriko glass artist Saito Hikaru.
We learned the secret techniques of hand polishing at an Edo Kiriko workshop that was founded over 100 years ago, and even though we consider the productivity and profitability of the technique low, we value the tradition and want to deliver authentic Kiriko to our users, so we also value the technique of hand polishing.
While respecting traditional designs, we aim to create interesting designs that ordinary Edo Kiriko craftsmen would not create, so we are sure you will find a great piece that strikes a chord with you.

When I think about a design, I start by considering whether it is logical and mathematical, or intuitive and sensory.
It seemed to me that when I decided to create a logical design, everything became logical, and when I decided to create an intuitive design, everything had an intuitive structure, so I wanted to create this piece by incorporating both and fusing them together.
The overall design is based on an intuitive, sensory structure using curves, however the traditional Kiku-Kagome and Yarai patterns inserted into the valleys are based on a logical, mathematical structure in which the intersections of coordinates are precisely cut mathematically based on horizontal and vertical grids.
Balls are inserted into the yarai, adding a design element to the normal yarai.
This is an original design called Gyokuyarai (a round yari stand) made by our workshop.
The ball part has been finished to look like frosted glass using a matte finish.
We use a matte finish to add a touch of luxury to the glass.
Among all traditional patterns, Kiku Kagome is one of the most difficult to cut.
We have used it in our designs because the balance between the cut parts and the remaining color is just right and it looks beautiful.
After making the prototype, we decided that the size of the chrysanthemum basket weave was neither too big nor too small, and we adjusted it to what we thought was the best size.
The center of the Tamayari pattern has lost its color, while the center of the Kikukagome pattern still retains its color.
The opposing designs create a sense of unity in the glass design.
When creating a high-grade design, we are conscious of the pleasant feel in the mouth and in the hand.
To enhance the feel of the glass, the corners of the glass have been boldly rounded off using a technique called "sumi-giri", which changes the shape of the corners at the base.
Also, I think the two different corner cutting patterns create a texture that is not found in other works.
In addition to the texture, the shape of the base is also interesting and not seen in other pieces.
This "functional beauty" is the result of our pursuit of functionality in terms of feel.
We have intentionally made deep, rough cuts not only on the corners of the glass but also on the sides.
I believe that this craftsmanship will allow you to experience the pleasant feel that only Kiriko can provide.
There is also intricate detail around the mouth.
By rubbing it at an angle towards your mouth, it feels very smooth in your mouth.
We would like you to drink water when you first use it, as I think the water will taste really good because of how smooth it is.
I have identified and considered in my own way the factors that humans consider to be good-tasting.
It has been created to meet three of those requirements, and I believe you will be very satisfied with the craftsmanship.
Finally, to summarize the features of this glass,
- Intuitive overall design
Logical design in every detail
・Good taste
・The corners feel nice to the touch
- The sides feel nice to the touch
・Cutting a highly difficult Kiku-Kagome pattern
・I think the matte finish gives it a luxurious feel.
We hope you enjoy this piece, which is full of artisan ingenuity and style.
