As it is a natural material, and the tanning method used by the tannery is vegetable tanning, which causes minimal damage to the leather's quality, the leather surface inevitably has a small number of "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins." We do our best to avoid these during the cutting process or place these parts on areas of the product that are less visible or not load-bearing. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines to produce our items; all products are sewn entirely by hand. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is the only way to achieve beautiful, wave-like stitch lines, a key difference from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Pure Hand Burnishing and Edge Finishing Before the final product is complete, the last step is to burnish and finish the edges. This is done to make the leather edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Qie Xian Pai" has its own unique edge finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge finishing liquid is applied to make the edges appear even, a process repeated 2-3 times. After that, a layer of edge finishing wax is applied, and finally, a burnishing tool is used to rub the edges repeatedly until they look smooth. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Qie Xian Pai" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, from light to dark, until we achieve the desired color. After drying, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, we apply clean water to the surface of the leather to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. Because the dyeing process is entirely by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
