A glaze that develops a warm, mellow yellow, paired with a rich, appealing caramel-colored glaze. These elements are combined to create this katakuchi bowl. The caramel glaze applied to the rim of the bowl has flowed during firing, creating a beautiful, dynamic pattern. A katakuchi is a vessel with a pouring spout on one side, similar to a bowl or cup. This shape has been cherished in Japan since ancient times, used not only as a sake vessel but also for serving sauces and dressings. While it has the characteristic shape of a katakuchi, this piece was primarily created for its decorative appeal, serving as an accent to your table. We would be delighted if you could use it for a variety of dishes, such as simmered dishes, stir-fries, salads, or stews, without being limited by its katakuchi form. All stages of production, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are meticulously done by hand in my home studio, equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While mass production is not possible, each piece possesses its own unique character, and you can enjoy the subtle nuances that come from being handmade. The item you receive will be the exact piece shown in the product images. The base of the bowl has been sanded smooth to minimize any potential scratching of your table surfaces. I continue to explore new combinations of various glazes and clays, creating diverse ceramic pieces in a range of colors and forms. To prevent this, we apply a waterproofing treatment to all our ceramic tableware before shipping, so there is no need for initial conditioning (metome). This waterproofing process requires 2-3 days, which is why we set the shipping period to 5 days from your order.
