(Psalm 125:2) A century and a half ago, Reverend Mackay set foot on this distant island, far from his homeland, to share the Gospel with the people of Taiwan. His diary recounts an evening when, on their way to preach at a church, he, his wife, and his students were attacked by a group of hostile locals. The angry crowd assaulted them, injuring one of the students and nearly blinding his wife. After narrowly escaping through a narrow alley, he calmly entered the church and delivered a sermon based on a Psalm: from this day forward, the Lord will protect those who believe in Him, just as mountains surround Jerusalem. This very verse is now inscribed on Reverend Mackay's tombstone, a testament to his experiences of cross-cultural peril and challenges, yet also a profound testament to God's faithful protection.
