Care and Maintenance Notes:
★ Each piece is a unique handmade wool artwork, created by artisans, and each is one-of-a-kind.
★ Handmade wool products may have slight imperfections characteristic of handcrafting, unlike machine-made items that are uniformly perfect. There might be a stray thread or minor variations in dye. (If significant and clearly visible, we will note it. Please consider carefully if you are sensitive to handmade aesthetics, or feel free to message us for details on specific items if you haven't purchased handmade textiles before.)
★ Do not machine wash wool products. Dry cleaning is recommended once a season. If hand washing, use a wool-specific detergent or shampoo, gently wash separately (dark colors may have some dye bleed). Air dry and iron on a low setting with a towel underneath (do not expose to direct sunlight).
★ We select delicate, artistic handmade pieces, especially cashmere items, which require gentle handling. Fingernails, jewelry, bag hardware, zippers, and velcro can easily snag the fibers, so please be mindful. While cashmere is light and soft, our wool products are more durable against friction. We select fine wool from first-shear or young sheep, or use felted wool techniques, making them softer and more skin-friendly than regular wool. We personally find them non-itchy, and will specifically note if there's a concern for itchiness. If you are particularly sensitive to itchiness, please message us for details.
★ Each item comes with a simple, eco-friendly kraft paper box, gift-wrapped, perfect for your dearest ones.
Xian Nu Xing Xuan Wu - North Indian Kashmir Wool Handmade Scarf/Shawl
Felted Wool Scarf/
Due to the high altitude and low boiling point in the Kashmir plateau region, a special felted wool technique has been developed. Through repeated boiling and drying, the felted wool becomes exceptionally fluffy and soft, making it more skin-friendly than regular wool products. The multi-layered yarn is thick and soft, providing excellent wind resistance. Paired with carefully hand-embroidered yarn in complementary colors, the details are exquisite (can be worn on both sides; one side features contrasting or lighter colors. The reverse side may have a few hand-tied knots. Both sides can be worn if you don't mind the knots).
Traditional Kani/
Kani is a classical Indian weaving art (not printing). Traditionally, threads were hand-woven with wooden shuttles to create natural motifs like vines, flowers, paisley, and maple leaves. Each piece could take months to complete. Modern, more common versions are often machine-woven, requiring time-consuming hand-cutting of threads on the back, leaving warp threads visible, resembling impressionist paintings. Some people also enjoy wearing these pieces on the reverse side.
Hand Embroidery/
The embroidery thread across the entire shawl is meticulously hand-stitched, so it won't be as precisely aligned or flat as machine embroidery, but it possesses the charm of fine handcraftsmanship. Full of delicate and beautiful details, with vibrant vines or the auspicious paisley motif representing prosperity and royalty, it evokes a romantic Bohemian garden feel.
Kalenkali Hand-Dye & Embroidery/
India's renowned dyeing techniques are combined with hand embroidery. The intricate dyeing patterns across the shawl are outlined with embroidery in various thread colors. The piano-style border at the bottom, similar to Kani, adds to the charm. Experience the richness of two traditional crafts, full of exquisite handmade details, making it a collectible piece.
