If you are particular about the current condition of the plant, feel free to message the designer for photos. 🔥🔥🔥 The Saint Nicholas cactus, also known as Saint Nicholas ball or Saint Nicholas globe, is a succulent plant belonging to the Gymnocalycium genus of the cactus family. It typically has a spherical shape, with colors ranging from dark green to grey-green. Mature plants often produce offshoots, and they have fibrous root systems with 2-8 spines. Tubercles are found along the ribs. A distinctive feature of the Saint Nicholas cactus is its subtle ribbing, resembling a smooth green orb adorned with a few spines. It usually has fewer ribs, with 5 ribs being its characteristic trait. Variations with 4 or 3 ribs are rarer and therefore more valuable and expensive. The 5-ribbed variety is most common, while those with more than 5 ribs are more likely to be hybrids. | Care Guide | The Saint Nicholas cactus prefers full sun or partial shade and should be placed in a well-ventilated area, planted in a well-draining medium. Summer is the growing season for the Saint Nicholas cactus; water should be reduced or withheld during winter. Cacti in the Gymnocalycium genus generally require a good amount of fertilizer to promote growth. They are known to root well and grow vigorously. Varieties that produce offshoots can be easily propagated through these offsets. However, new varieties are also frequently cultivated through seed propagation, with seedlings emerging in about 3-4 weeks. Some varieties may take 1-2 years to flower, and most species are not self-pollinating; fruit develops well after artificial pollination. In summer, during the growing season, keep the soil moist, provide partial shade, and ensure good ventilation. In winter, keep the soil dry, provide ample light, and maintain a temperature no lower than 5°C. | Flowering | The Saint Nicholas cactus blooms in shades of pink, pinkish-white, or rose red, with darker stripes on the petals. The flowers last for several days and typically bloom in spring and autumn. They are self-pollinating. | Cultivation Notes | Under normal cultivation, significant errors are required to cause its death. The plant will flower once it reaches a certain size. Due to variations in their native habitats, each species has different environmental and cultivation requirements.
