These are SDGs jewelry pieces mended with Kintsugi, upcycled from pottery by Matsugunzan Pottery (Shounzan-gama) in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Broken or chipped pottery that is no longer in use is repurposed and mended with Kintsugi to be transformed into accessories. The concept behind these pieces is to bring the beauty of nature and Japan's enduring traditions closer to you, reimagining them into modern accessories that connect to the future, thus creating new possibilities. Deep indigo pottery fragments are paired with black peacock freshwater pearls. Kintsugi is applied to the sides of the pottery fragments, allowing the gold to shine even from the side, lending an air of refined elegance. The accompanying chain is made of allergy-friendly surgical stainless steel with 18K coating, making it resistant to discoloration and gentle on the skin, suitable for those with allergies. These works utilize a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Instead of traditional lacquer derived from the sap of the lacquer tree, they use a new type of urushi (synthetic lacquer) that is less likely to cause irritation, combined with gold powder (brass powder).
