➤ Discover the enduring beauty of vintage jewelry, crafted to last and resist fading!
➤ Product Description
Spanish Damascene (Damascene) craftsmanship, a metal inlay technique, traces its origins back over 2000 years to Damascus, the capital of Syria. It was introduced to the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) in the early 8th century with the Moorish invasions.
Spanish Damascene pieces primarily feature floral and bird motifs, as well as Islamic geometric patterns.
The process involves creating a base of iron or copper alloy, etching fine lines onto the surface, and then meticulously hammering thin sheets of genuine gold and silver into the etched patterns to form the design. A layer of lacquer is applied and fired to prevent oxidation and corrosion of the base metal, followed by polishing. Finally, intricate micro-engraving techniques are employed before the piece is set into jewelry.
【Characteristics of Damascene Craftsmanship】
(1) Oxidized metal base: The metal base has a black appearance.
(2) Hand-chiseled: Engravings are typically concave, with distinct outlines.
(3) Cicada-wing thin gold and silver foil: Hand-hammered into the chiseled grooves, incredibly delicate and fine.
