After the 1830s, a new type of publication appeared in Europe and the United States, appealing for fashionable dress, because of the emergence of a new middle class, fashion gradually became a trend. This kind of publication showing people's clothing and popular clothing at the time required a lot of illustrations, so illustration production has become an important tool for expressing fashion. At this time, the illustration artist used different printmaking techniques, such as direct copper engraving, etching and lithographs, to complete many plates, and then hand-painted them one by one.
The popularity and change of fashion, with the emergence and gradual popularity of Fashion Pictorial, has been further integrated with social culture and taste. The format of the pictorial has also gradually changed from eight folds to four folds, about the size of A4 paper. The picture is no longer a separate display of clothes, but with more indoor furnishings and outdoor scenery, which can clearly set off the application scene of the clothes.
In the 1840s and 1850s, the clothes and dresses reflected the social customs of the time. In order to maintain the shape of the bell-shaped skirt, women must wear a petticoat under the skirt and a tight top on the upper body. The jacket goes down the body, all the way to the waistline and ends with a V-shaped tip. At this time, the waist became the focus of vision, and the ladies leaned on the waistcoat underwear to tighten the waist to the willow waist that was not full of grip.
At the dinner party, the clothes worn are often strapless. Therefore, lace shawls are also popular indoors, and hats are worn outdoors. At this time, the headwear is more varied than the clothes. Small hoods, jockey hats, and turbans are all popular. The most popular in the late 1830s and 1940s was the wide-brimmed hood, which was wide enough to completely cover the face when the wearer stood sideways.
