The popularity of monogram patterns has recently reached new heights, becoming unavoidable even for those who don't typically buy pre-owned items. When thinking of monograms, Louis Vuitton often comes to mind first, but in reality, Celine's monogram predates LV's. However, who came first in the fashion world isn't that important. Look at how LV, arriving later, has dominated the monogram scene for so many years without faltering. Celine's monogram, though an elder, has only gained widespread recognition in recent years with its复刻 (revival) of the pattern. Ultimately, every brand has its own monogram, much like their logo. It simply comes down to which monogram you prefer.
Celine's monogram dates back to the 1870s. It was later discontinued for a long period before being revived by the new creative director in recent years. Before its revival, Celine's monogram was a subtle gem in the pre-owned market, featuring a classic pattern, a variety of bag styles, and affordable prices. Sadly, that era has passed. After the new collection's revival, the prices of almost all monogram bags have steadily increased, with some bag shapes closely resembling the new designs seeing a sharp surge. Many who had never purchased pre-owned items before have entered the vintage realm because of the monogram. A comparison reveals why "new is not as good as old." I believe Celine's monogram perfectly embodies this sentiment. The level of detail in the pattern alone shows a significant difference. The revived new monogram pattern is enlarged, but the edges appear blurry (perhaps intentional?). With an old monogram, you wouldn't see such blurriness even with a magnifying glass. Of course, this is also due to different eras and design needs. In recent years, the design trend for most brands has leaned towards larger and larger patterns, emphasizing the logo or brand name. Regardless, I personally prefer the finer, intricate arrangement and exquisite detail of the older patterns (and smaller patterns are easier to match with outfits).
Another significant advantage of the older monogram is its excellent water-resistance. The monogram leather has a coating that offers light protection against water and stains. Basic light rain (heavy downpours are another story; stay indoors during those!) or accidental splashes can be easily wiped away with a dry cloth. So, on rainy days, I can casually grab a monogram bag and go. You don't have to worry too much about rough handling with monogram leather (though excessive force is still not advisable!). For everyday use or for those who tend to be a bit rough with their bags, a monogram bag is a great choice because it's genuinely convenient. It pairs perfectly with a simple T-shirt and jeans. Celine is now part of the LV group, so the new collections have a very unified and corporate feel. There's a popular saying that everyone who collects pre-owned bags must have a Celine, as their vintage selection is vast and less likely to be seen on others. (Personally, I feel new designs simply cannot compare to vintage pieces due to differences in craftsmanship and material quality. Complaints about the poor quality of new items from major brands can easily be found online.)
⚐⚑˒˒ The bag is in good condition. While not pristine, it's in very good shape. This is one of the most sought-after entry-level pre-owned Celine bags, offering high value for money! This is the most popular entry-level pre-owned Celine bag, a rare cream color, and offers high CP value! It can be used as a clutch or a shoulder/crossbody bag, as it has been fitted with clasps for attaching a shoulder strap or chain. The opening has a structured frame, so the bag maintains its shape and is easy to access. The embossed logo features a deeply etched, full, and proud Triomphe motif, showing minimal signs of wear that contribute to its natural vintage charm. The exterior leather on the front and back has no scratches, scuffs, or cracks. The base, sides, and four corners are intact with no signs of wear or peeling. Even the very edges are in excellent condition. The zipper pull is made of leather and shows minimal signs of use, with no peeling or cracking. The zipper operates smoothly. The zipper pull is a triangular shape with the Celine engraving (I actually quite like this triangular pull). The overall hardware is golden, with no significant oxidation or discoloration. The interior lining is clean, with no peeling of the leather. It includes the brand's leather tag. There is also a small zippered compartment that is fully functional. Overall, the bag is in excellent condition with very light signs of wear, giving it a natural retro vibe when worn. Its capacity is small but practical.
Please note: This model was originally a cosmetic pouch. It has been modified with the addition of clasps to be used as a shoulder or crossbody bag. A gold-tone chain is included.

One of the main reasons I love pre-owned bags is that the leather from older eras is superior to that of current new items. Most pre-owned items from the past were handmade, imbued with the warmth of craftsmanship before machines took over. The artisan skills of major brands were many times more refined than machines; every step was meticulously crafted! However, most processes today are machine-made and then assembled by hand, lacking the fine detail of machine production. The most direct and easily visible comparison is to take the revived monogram patterns from recent years and compare them with the authentic monograms from older collections; the level of detail in the monogram patterns alone is entirely different. If you love monograms, seek out pre-owned items! Truly!
In terms of style, older pieces were generally simpler, timeless, and more enduring. Many current new designs are actually revivals of older styles. However, new items are priced higher than older ones, and new designs are typically created by adding to or altering older designs. Consequently, the final designs are often more complex than those of the past. I believe as we grow older, we come to understand one thing: the simpler, the more enduring!
The quality of materials in older items is also superior to newer ones. Anyone who understands leather can see that the materials used in new items are mostly inferior to older ones. This is primarily because the cost of high-quality raw materials is now too high and supplies are scarce, coupled with the fact that many brands had very high standards for their finished products back then. The most straightforward way to see the difference between new and old is often the hardware. Hardware on many new items oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two, but this rarely happens with older pieces. In addition to the high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship, hardware from earlier eras was often plated with genuine 18K gold! Thus, even vintage bags produced as far back as the 60s and 70s retain their shine today. Among the brands I know, none of the new models currently available use 18K gold for their hardware.
Many say that vintage bags are a form of alternative investment, rarely depreciating and often appreciating in value. This is because the number of pre-owned bags in good condition on the market is decreasing, and each one that disappears makes them rarer and thus more expensive. Furthermore, certain brands periodically increase their prices, which in turn drives up the prices in the pre-owned market. Additionally, with the recent popularity of vintage items among Japanese and Korean celebrities, the price of a particular style can skyrocket after being seen on a celebrity. If a brand releases its own updated revival, the price of that style, or even similar styles, will increase dramatically! So, with vintage items, it's truly a case of "buy early, enjoy now; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's the truth of the pre-owned world...). This is based on personal experience; I regret not entering the pre-owned market sooner for many collections, as they are now impossible to find or astronomically priced. I collect every pre-owned bag because I love it, and I hope you will love it too and preserve it for years to come ☪︎ *.
