Consequently, the inner pages possess a notable degree of water resistance. The paper is acid-free, robust, and tear-resistant, remaining intact even when dampened. Fountain pen ink appears crisp without feathering or significant bleed-through, and it accommodates nearly all writing and drawing instruments. (Further details on water-resistant paper follow.) Each notebook contains 48 pages, bound with thread. Escher Dot/Pure White Paper The dot grid pages are a new addition. The grid is our proprietary "Precise Dot Grid System," featuring small crosshairs. This allows for more accurate alignment when drawing lines, and the crosshairs seamlessly integrate with your writing, appearing as one cohesive element. The reason for its infrequent use? It's time-consuming and costly. Despite this, we forgo cheaper saddle-stitching. Firstly, Taiwan's climate can cause staples to rust. Secondly, thread binding offers superior durability and a smoother writing surface, preventing hand fatigue. -----Characteristics of RN Water-Resistant Paper: Offers a natural writing feel and water resistance----- During research, we anticipate various usage scenarios – jotting down recipes in a damp kitchen, accidental spills while comparing coffee tastings, or sudden rain showers while documenting nature outdoors. This led us to select a rather unique water-resistant paper for our inner pages. The Research Notes (hereinafter referred to as RN) water-resistant paper distinguishes itself from similar products. While waterproof notebooks exist, their plastic-like texture and excessive smoothness often detract from the writing experience, making precise control difficult. With ballpoint pens, ink can even transfer to the opposite page after the notebook is closed for a period, hindering readability. Some waterproof papers have improved their texture to feel more like traditional paper, but these often cannot accommodate water-based inks, precluding the use of fountain pens and water-based markers. This limits writing choices to pencils and ballpoint pens, diminishing the joy of writing. RN's water-resistant paper, however, retains the tactile feel of paper. What defines water-resistant versus waterproof? We distinguish them as follows: Waterproof paper repels water entirely, allowing any liquid to be shaken off. Water-resistant paper absorbs water on the surface layer only, preventing it from becoming saturated. It also resists tearing even when wet, so moisture doesn't cause damage. As only the surface gets wet, drying time is significantly reduced. While the paper may curl slightly upon drying, gentle folding helps to flatten it. -----Five Key Features of RN Water-Resistant Paper----- Anyone familiar with paper understands that achieving all these properties simultaneously is a challenge, as some are inherently contradictory. RN paper is also highly suitable for fountain pen use. It possesses the same feather-resistant properties as premium writing paper, and its remarkable quality lies in its virtual absence of bleed-through. We tested it even with oil-based markers, known for their severe bleed-through, and the RN water-resistant paper held up, showing no signs of bleed-through (as seen in Figure 8). It can be used with any writing instrument, and we've even used it for watercolor painting – a feat unmatched by any other so-called waterproof/water-resistant paper. In practical application, if you choose waterproof fountain pen ink, your writing will remain smudge-proof even when exposed to water after the ink dries (Note: dependent on the effectiveness of the waterproof ink).
