[Important Clarification] The sage sold in this shop is NOT Mexican sage (Salvia divinorum), which was classified as a Schedule III controlled substance by the Ministry of Justice in March 2022. They are entirely different species with distinct uses and effects. Firstly, the scientific name for Mexican sage is *Salvia divinorum*, while California white sage is *Salvia apiana*. Like herbs such as rosemary, lavender, and mint, there are hundreds of varieties of sage, each with unique properties and effects, just as different origins and varieties of lavender oil have different applications. The primary function of California white sage (*Salvia apiana*) is purification and clearing. Mexican sage (*Salvia divinorum*), however, contains salvinorin A, a psychoactive compound. When ingested or inhaled, it induces short but intense hallucinogenic effects similar to LSD. Some literature also reports that the abuse of Mexican sage can lead to mental disorders and schizophrenia, with cases of suicide linked to its use even occurring in the United States. Therefore, rest assured that the sage we sell is NOT Mexican sage. Burning it will not cause poisoning, addiction, or any hallucinogenic harm to your health. Product Dimensions (As this is an agricultural product, I truly cannot control the handmade bundle size, length, and weight. I once asked my supplier if they could standardize the weight and length, and the answer was no! This is because Native Americans traditionally bundle them in a very natural, free-spirited way. My wholesale cost is the same for each batch, but the supplier provides bundles that vary in size even within the same batch. Every plant is unique from birth, flourishing individually. Nature nurtures plants in a complete and perfect way. Observe wild plants and trees (not artificially cultivated); their trunks will inevitably have some scars, branches might be wind-broken, crooked, or bent. Their leaves also vary in size, some with insect marks, some curved, and colors differ. However, this is the complete, most natural state of nature, embodying all the energies of earth, water, wind, and sunlight, growing in a refined and complete manner. It is "humans" who categorize beauty and quality based on their own perceptions and aesthetic preferences. Difference Between Bundles and Loose Leaves: Many people ask, and there is truly no difference; it's the exact same product. Let me explain why bundles of white sage exist: In North America, ancient ceremonies were often held outdoors. Indigenous people would tie white sage branches and leaves together with rope, making them easy to light as a bundle, producing ample smoke. This was a practical adaptation for convenience. The same applies to other herbs like juniper, cedar, black sage, and blue sage. However, now, American herbs, especially white sage, are much more expensive when imported to Taiwan. Lighting a bundle at once will last, at most, a few tens of minutes, and the smoke will be very intense. Furthermore, bundles are typically tied when the white sage is freshly harvested and then dried. If you don't burn the entire bundle but instead separate and burn it slowly like loose leaves, it's like a "lottery." If the weather in North America is poor or the sun isn't strong enough, it may not dry thoroughly. You can imagine what might happen if it's not fully dried while enclosed; this primarily affects white sage because its leaves are larger and thicker, making them less prone to thorough drying. Unless you have a strong need for the following and are willing to embrace the "lottery" aspect of dismantling a bundle, I strongly recommend purchasing loose leaves (if you don't want loose, and insist on buying bundles only to then untie them, that's fine if you have a special preference for untying the string). Or consider white sage powder (burns even better), or my own white sage incense sticks (which last much longer than the leaves) – these are all superior to bundles. 1.
