Souko 蒼枯 brooch

This brooch is a combination of two extremes: young green leaves and withered leaves. a brooch of having two poles. The dead leaves become a source of nutrients for the new shoots. The new plant grows rapidly and then dies. This is the cycle of nature. Even youthful young men have a part of them that seems to have withered . Even the elderly have an inherent youthfulness that is striking. We all have an inherent youthfulness and a withered otherness. I grew up in a Japanese house with an old thatched roof that had stood for over 170 years. When we rebuilt the house, we reused the pillars and beams that we could use and renovated the house to have the same shape and frame as before. I made a brooch out of the old wood from the house. The old wood is transformed into a new house. On the other hand, the new wood becomes old after a long time. This work is also inspired by the change of things and the flow of time. I do not use electric saws or electric carving knives. I carve by hand with a graver. The old wood has been coloured and varnished.
