When I traveled to the Pamirs, I was struck by its beauty and scale of Lake Sarez - the Pearl of the Pamirs. Looking around this amazing lake, you might think that it has been lying in a high mountain valley since ancient times. But this is not so - one of the largest high-mountain lakes in Central Asia appeared at the beginning of the 20th century as a result of a collapse of rocks. The emerging natural dam blocked the river's path, and the resulting bowl of the future lake began to slowly fill with water. The beautiful Sarez Lake is a dangerous natural object, the threat from which extends to 4 countries of Central Asia. In the event of a natural dam breaking, all the water of this lake will rush into the valley, sweeping away everything in its path.
