Surface imperfections, or "dimples" (ekubo), are small indentations that occur naturally within the oyster. As these are natural gemstones, the surface of a pearl is not always perfectly smooth. Unlike artificial scratches, these are called dimples or natural blemishes. They are a "mark of authenticity" that can only be found in pearls nurtured by abundant nature. Please enjoy the individual character of Akoya pearls, which are distinct from cultured pearls.
