In the garden or in a vase, calla lilies are elegant and always impressive. Calla means beauty in Greek. In Greek mythology, god Zeus brought Hercules, his son from other woman, to Hera while she was asleep to drink her milk. He wanted the son to have the strength of the gods. When she woke up and pushed the baby away, the drops of milk landed on earth, calla lilies bloom. In Roman mythology, when Venus, goddess of love, beauty and desire, saw calla lilies she was jealous of their beauty. She cursed it with an unsightly yellow pistil in the middle of the flowers. Like other flowers, different color carries different messages. White Calla Lily symbolizes purity and innocence. Yellow symbolizes gratitude. Pink symbolizes appreciation and romance.
