Water-ground sand, Emperor sand, Purple-gold sand, and Crystal sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and manufacturing methods.**
**「Water-ground Sand」**
**True red with a slight orange hue. The surface has a warm, matte finish that will become shinier with wear, forming a patina.**
The manufacturing process involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, mixing it with water, allowing it to settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is further allowed to settle for purification (the water-grinding method). The settled cinnabar mud is then air-dried and compressed using ancient methods. Evenly distributed fine mineral flashes can still be seen on the internal cross-section.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**The color is closer to true red, with a brighter luster and higher hardness.**
The manufacturing process involves multiple stages of purification from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, water-grinding, and high polishing**, followed by ancient compression methods. Emperor sand has almost no visible mineral flashes on the surface, but has them internally. The surface employs a **high-polishing** technique to achieve a metallic sheen, especially under sunlight, enhancing its metallic feel.
**「Purple-gold Sand」**
**The color is a purplish-red, with slightly lower hardness than Emperor sand.**
The manufacturing process involves multiple stages from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, and screening**, but **without the water-grinding purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as refined and has small, scattered mineral flashes, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from the cinnabar ore. The surface clearly shows large crystal grains. Under light, each grain is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing & Autumn Harvest**
**In this world, anything that unfolds, anything poetic, anything beautiful, often happens naturally, much like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, respect the power of time, and let everything grow naturally, like a tree, focused and fearless, growing clear annual rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is just the same!!**
**> Cinnabar**
In the earliest written records, cinnabar was referred to by a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is a pictographic character. In ancient times, miners dug wells to extract minerals. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying something extracted from a dug well. This something is cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, mostly a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
Cinnabar’s color endures and does not fade. Chinese calligraphy and painting are called "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is an indispensable ingredient in pigments and a primary component of "eight treasures seal paste."
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have absorbed the essence of the sun and moon. It absorbs the positive energy of heaven and earth, giving it a strong yang magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme item for improving luck, warding off evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, prosperity, and peace.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herbal medicine, often used in treatments for calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in the modern era, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also help cultivate one's character, nourish the eyes, and soothe the mind.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a significant weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it through an intermediary object. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly, as it is difficult to control the time and area. Once it turns black from prolonged exposure, it cannot be restored.)
>. Real cinnabar can draw an orangey-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area, or use one of the provided sample beads.)
**> Care**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not contain metal or plant-based components (such as wood, bamboo, bodhi seeds, etc.), it can be slightly exposed to water, but prolonged immersion is not recommended as it can affect its luster.**
**It is not advisable to get the braided cord wet. After washing, let it air dry before wearing, as damp cords can create excessive moisture on the body, which is not ideal.**
1. Avoid corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can cause corrosion.
2. Avoid contact with metal objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening or blackening.
3. Avoid high temperatures
The mercury sulfide component in cinnabar will only release at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with confidence.
4. Avoid collision with hard or sharp objects.
Cinnabar is hard but brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to clean
If you find the cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original brilliance! You can wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while.
6. Oiling for maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil and become more lustrous and bright. If applying oil, you can then seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapped in plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body with your hands. This allows the surface to acquire a thin layer of natural oils, making it appear more antique and elegant over time.
The actual product is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
