Its surface has a warm, matte sheen that will gradually become more lustrous with wear, developing a patina.** The manufacturing method involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing it with water, letting it settle, and collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is then allowed to settle again for purification (the water-grinding method). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then compressed using traditional methods. Emperor Sand has almost no visible mineral sparkle on the surface, but it is present internally.
