Postcard / Mogao Caves Hunting Scene / Letterpress Four-Color Overprint { The Beauty of Dunhuang } "The Beauty of Dunhuang" is a series of promotional design items created in collaboration with the Dunhuang Academy, commissioned by the Shanghai First Financial Public Welfare Foundation. Discussions for this design project began in Shanghai at the end of 2015. Between 2016 and 2019, I visited Dunhuang four times with the Shanghai team, exploring the Mogao and Yulin Caves. The design and production were finally completed in September 2020. Eighty percent of the items produced have already been sent to Dunhuang. A limited number of complete sets remain, and we are pleased to share them with you who appreciate Dunhuang's cultural heritage. (Some items were printed in larger quantities, hence their availability for retail.) { Imagery } The hunting scene is derived from a mural in Cave 249 of the Mogao Caves. It reflects the style of the Northern Wei dynasty (766-835 AD), yet the artistic execution is remarkably sophisticated. The animals are depicted in full gallop, with the hunter making a perilous return shot.
